What is a Network?
DEFINITION
A computer network is two or more computers or devices connected together to share resources and communicate data.
STEP 1 · WHY NETWORK?
The primary reason for networking is efficiency. By connecting devices, we can share hardware (like printers), share software/files, and communicate instantly via email or messaging.
Advantage
Share peripherals (printers/scanners) to save costs.
Advantage
Centralised backups and security updates.
STEP 2 · THE DRAWBACKS
Networking isn't without risk. It introduces security vulnerabilities (like malware spreading) and requires expensive hardware and maintenance.

Higher risk of malware and hacking.

Requires specialist staff to manage (Network Manager).
STEP 3 · CONNECTIVITY
Devices can be connected physically using cables (Wired) or wirelessly using radio waves (Wi-Fi). We will explore these in later modules.
